To win a victory, Maia Sandu needs votes of Usatyi’s sympathizers, commentatorIf the voter turnout in the presidential runoff exceeds 50%, the chances of winning of the PAS’ candidate Maia Sandu will be rather big. In 2016, Renato Usatyi announced his support for Igor Dodon and his sympathizers then voted for Igor Dodon. The current campaign was yet anti-Dodon and the voters of Usatyi could migrate to Maia Sandu in opposition to Igor Dodon, not necessarily in support of Maia Sandu. Respectively, it was normal for them to state their support for Maia Sandu for the runoff. In the November 1 presidential elections, Maia Sandu won 36.16% of the vote, while Igor Dodon – 32.61%.

Runoffs and candidates’ wish to dissolve ParliamentIn the runoffs, a major and serious impact will be produced by the debates involving Igor Dodon and Maia Sandu. If Maia Sandu is elected President, most probably she will want to have a majority in Parliament. If Igor Dodon keeps office, Aurelian Lavric anticipates this will not make effort to dissolve Parliament as he does not need this. However, a political crisis is imminent under practically any scenario and this can only be smaller or larger, especially if Maia Sandu is elected President. Both of the variants are less favorable for Maia Sandu as these are not pro-European pools.

The project is financed by the European Endowment for Democracy and the Embassy of the Netherlands in the Republic of Moldova. The poll will be carried out on November 1, between 12:30pm and 9:30pm, among citizens aged 18 and up with the right to vote, who are in the Republic of Moldova. The organizers of the poll specify that they will not save respondents’ phone numbers in any database.
